The Inevitable Cycle

The Inevitable Cycle follows three main characters through traumatic events, mistakes and recovery. From daily life to military combat, and from the stress of the medical field to the calm environment of a laboratory. One event leads to another, and for the three main characters, it feels like they're experiencing an inevitable cycle of suffering. Unbeknownst to them, there might be a reason why.

Almyr Schuirot

Almyr Schuirot was fostered and later adopted by Osry Schuirot. They became a member of the IID (Infiltration and Intelligence Division), a paramilitary group under the FASI (Federal Agency of Security and Investigation). During their service in this group they developed a complicated sexual relationship with one of their bosses. The FASI eventually found out about their extraordinary abilities, and they were deemed a highly valuable agent. Almyr was later medically discharged due to self harm, and eventually decided to move in with their sister to "hibernate".Around 29k years later they pursued a medical career in multi-species healthcare– becoming a soft tissue surgeon, a neurosurgeon and a physiatrist due to the huge demand.During their neurosurgery residency they were abused by one of the nurses, which led to them remembering their repressed memories of their childhood, causing them to take controlled substances to ease their flashbacks and anxiety. They built a new hospital, Milja Medical Centre, where they started to recover from their trauma. Due to certain events, they started to spiral again. Repeating the cycle.

Rey Quark

Reyfenhr Quark was fostered by Vhèr Quark due to their extraordinary abilities. They were medicated with The Blocker, something that dampened their abilities. Little is known about Reyfenhr.R31 was a SACU Officer (Special Abilities Combat Unit) and fought in the Great Amlundi War. Like Reyfenhr, they were also medicated with The Blocker. During their service they were accused of launching a nuclear weapon at the end of the war, but was proven to be innocent in court. They attended the Great Amlundi Memorial Ceremony and received a medal for their service, but was assassinated shortly after.R32 was a SACU soldier and is primarily known for their service during the Teerevi Territorial War. It was believed that both they and R31 were clones of Reyfenhr due their identical nature, it being impossible for R32 to be R31 as their assassination was filmed on live broadcast.
R32 later suffered severe injuries which left them incapable of continuing their service. They retired, and was untraceable by the Kardei Union. Vhèr eventually managed to trace them down and offered them a job as math teacher at a small accommodated high-school. Similar to Reyfenhr and R31, they were medicated with The Blocker, something they decided to study in secret. They eventually found how to concentrate it enough for it to be effective for what they planned on doing– hoping it would end the cycle.

Marish Quark

Marish Quark was adopted by Vhèr Quark and soon after taken in by her daughter, Sølvi. Like Reyfenhr they had extraordinary abilities, but were unstable, which led to Vhèr medicating them with The Blocker to keep it under control. Marish developed severe self harm, and at age eight they cut off their tail. This led to their long journey of psychological intervention. They suffered a psychotic break in their early adulthood, which led to them getting diagnosed with schizophrenia. It was later clear that something else was going on– schizophrenia not being the only cause of their hallucinations. With the help of Vhèr, they were allowed to study The Blocker, hoping to make it more effective. Though unbeknownst to Vhèr, they were aiming to get the same results as R32.

Other Characters

Brynde Milleron is one of the bosses at the IID. He had been serving in the army for 14 years, and the Huntsmen Regiment for 12, before becoming an IID member and later boss. He was a member for 29 years before Almyr was hired, but had met them 8 years prior through Osry. He suffered through severe bullying during his preteen to teenage years due to his homosexuality, including an instance of sexual assault, which contributed to his chronic suicidal ideation. He was physically and sexually abused by his ex-wife, which is how his daughter, Iben, was conceived.

Osry Schuirot is a child abuse and trafficking investigator at the FASI and is therefore highly knowledgeable about childhood sexual trauma. He's diagnosed with the Vjesoen equivalent of autism, and has faced issues due to this. He very quickly noticed the concerning signs that Almyr had suffered severe abuse after taking them under his wing.

Tobik Antersen is a member of the IID, and Almyr's best friend and later significant other. After marrying Almyr he was hit with the difficulties of navigating their poor mental health, having thought he was fully prepared for it. Almyr was on the same team as him, where he was later appointed Team Leader.

Vhèr Quark is the founder of the Kardei Union (D.U.K.A.S.T– Democratic Union of Kardei Sovereign Territories) and has been in a position of leadership ever since the Union came to power. She started as an active leader involved in most interplanetary decisions, then later became less involved as the Union grew and new politicians rose to take the role as leaders. She continued to be in power as a political guide, influencing new decisions regarding the Union with her experience. Asorn Vhèr is considered a peacekeeper, and is in some cases involved with the military to settle disputes. Despite being a very well known individual, little is known about her due to her age. Her birthplace is unknown, and even her age is unknown. There have been some speculations about her abilities, with some people convinced her ability is simply being immortal.

Sølvi Dahlvik is one of the daughters of Vhèr Quark and a psychologist trained in sexual trauma. She raised Marish and continued to be their caretaker as an adult due to their poor mental health. It's not well known that she's Vhèr's daughter, both preferring to keep it a secret to protect her private life.

Synne Furunes is the other daughter of Vhèr Quark, and a psychiatrist specialising in psychotic disorders. She welcomed Almyr into her home after Tobik's death to let them recover from the grief. She later became their caretaker as their mental health spiraled and their substance abuse got worse.

Saichon Niranphasuk is a herbalist focusing on pain management of mild to moderate pain. They were severely abused and tortured for around 5 years before escaping, where they ended up under the care of Majken.

Deralt Sundcher is a neurosurgeon. He was abused by his mother after his father died of aggressive brain cancer, something that led to him pursuing a career in neurosurgery. He was childhood friends with Saichon and later became their significant other after reuniting as adults.

Worldbuilding

The Inevitable Cycle takes place in the Kardei Galaxy during its golden age– around 10 billion years after its conception. This galaxy is full of life, where most of its species are humanoids called Medianoids, though there are species that diverge from the norm called Devianoids.

The Blueprint Lore explains why most of Kardei's species are humanoids. It says that there's a certain way species evolve to be able to develop high intelligence, which coincided with how humans look. Opposable thumbs, large brain to body ratio, easy mobility etc. all contributed to what we would call Medianoids. This unfortunately has been used to discriminate against Devianoids, some claiming that they're not intelligent as they don't follow the typical evolution of highly intelligent species.
It has also been noted by scientists that almost everything has evolved similarly, regardless of what planet it has evolved on– from highly intelligent species to flora and fauna.

Vjesoens (singular: Vjesoen) are Medianoids with glowing freckles and a primarily blue colour palette. They belong to the Lumin Class and have a complicated endocrine system to go with their luminescence. Their glowing freckles are triggered by hormones related to emotions, and come in a variety of hues. Usually they are white, indicating that the Vjesoen feels neutral. The saturation and brightness of the freckles depend on the amount of hormones released. Colours can come in a combination, for example both pink and yellow.Hues:
– White: Neutral
– Pink: Fear/Stress
– Red: Anger
– Yellow: Happiness/Joy
– Blue: Sadness
– Purple: Sadness
Vjesoens live around 150 years, though most tend to pass away between 140–150 years old. Their aging diverge from the norm as it speeds up and slows down throughout their life.Vjesoen (Human)
0–17 (0–14) Child, First Puberty
18–24 (15–17) Older Teenager
25–29 (18–24) Young Adult, Second Puberty
30–100 (25–60) Matured
100–150 (60–100) Senior

Kadt'houis (singular: Kadt'houi) are Medianoids with head appendages and a primarily brown and orange colour palette. They belong to both the Paripenden Class and Carni Class. They have tails and feet related to paws, both common traits of the Carni Class. Kadt'houis are compatible (able to procreate) with most species, which has made them a very widespread and genetically diverse species. Their head appendages are called kadti (plural: kadta).Kadt'houis live around 100 years, which is seen as the lower end of Kardei species lifespans. They have a high metabolism and are often good runners. Their bodytype is often naturally on the leaner side.Around 40% of all Kadt'houis have a gene that makes them susceptible to the autoimmune disease Kvit'hu Nevri'pati (White Skin Neuropathy). It can get triggered by either severe psychological or physiological stress in childhood, though some Kadt'houis with this gene are more susceptible than others. This disorder affects the pigmentation of the skin and causes nerve damage in the affected area, but often stops during puberty. It can be medicated to prevent further development of the spots.

The Federal Agency of Security and Investigation (FASI) is the domestic intelligence and security service of Valdeny and its principal federal law enforcement agency. The FASI covers counterterrorism, counterintelligence, and criminal investigation.

The Infiltration and Intelligence Division (IID) is a division of the Valdeny Federal Agency of Security and Investigation responsible for covert and paramilitary operations. Within IID there are three separate groups: QIT (Quick Infiltration Team) for tactical paramilitary operations, UIT (Undercover Infiltration Team) for covert operations, and RICT (Remote Intelligence Collection Team) for remote collection of intelligence. The IID is responsible for domestic operations that include clandestine or covert operations which the Valdeny government does not want to be overtly associated with. Due to this, IID members typically do not wear uniforms. If they are compromised during a mission, the Valdeny government may deny all knowledge. The IID itself is responsible for hostage rescue and extraction of its members. The group generally recruits personnel with military or police background, but offers a program for the recruitment of people with no military or police background called the IID Program.

The Valdenian Special Intelligence Service (VSIS) is the Valdenian foreign intelligence service tasked with advancing national security through collecting and analyzing intelligence from around the world and conducting covert and clandestine operations.

The Huntsmen Regiment, also known as the Polar Foxes, is a flexible and operational special force within the Valdenian military with a high degree of responsiveness that resolves assigned missions in the entire spectrum of special operations. Its members are nicknamed Polar Foxes due to being specialised for Polar missions.

Milja Medical Centre is a tertiary referral centre in Einingen, Hervden. It specialises in multi-species healthcare and covers most of the basic surgical and medical needs of non-native species. Milja is also known for offering pain management and assessment of unexplained chronic pain.
